Mayor Duggan, FEMA officials walk citizens through flood claims process
Wednesday, Aug. 4, Mayor Mike Duggan, along with officials from FEMA and SBA, walked residents step-by-step through the process of applying for flood relief for individuals who sustained damage from the storm of June 25th-26th. On July 15th, President Biden approved a National Disaster Declaration for this storm, paving the way for federal funding to provide assistance for recovery efforts.
As part of the presentation, the Mayor and FEMA officials explained what to do if you've received a denial letter from FEMA. Officials made it clear that this initial denial letter does not necessarily mean the resident is ineligible for FEMA assistance. FEMA also detailed their efforts here in Detroit, including the recent opening of two Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) in the city.
This information is of critical importance to thousands of Detroit residents, and we ask our media partners to share the information below on how to watch the presentation. As flood cleanup and recovery efforts continue, we want to make sure everyone knows that help is available and where to find it.
