City of Detroit announces street closings, parking information and transit options for Tigers' Opening Day

Tiger fans coming to downtown Detroit for Opening Day activities will find convenient parking, expanded time limits for street parking and some street closings around Comerica Park on Friday, April 4.

 

These City of Detroit facilities will be open on Friday, April 4.

 

Ford Underground Garage               6 a.m. – midnight                           $10

Motorists may pay for up to four hours at parking meters using Municipal Parking kiosks or the Park Detroit app. Individuals using the Park Detroit app can extend their parking time at meters remotely and receive mobile alerts 10 minutes prior to their time expiring.

 

The parking app also allows individuals to pay for parking in garages and lots in advance.  For more information on the app, go to parkdetroit.us

Motorists should note that illegally parked vehicles (in No Parking or Standing areas, handicap areas, near fire hydrants, blocking driveways, etc.) will be ticketed and towed.

Individuals who fail to follow the recommendations will be parking at their own risk as owners of private vacant lots may have unauthorized vehicles towed.

 

The City also is reminding individuals that tailgating is not allowed on public property.

The following streets will be closed from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. around Comerica Park on Opening Day, April 4:

 

In addition, Witherell from Adams to Fisher Fwy. Service Drive will be closed starting 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 3.

 

Sports fans and encouraged to avoid the congestion and parking challenges that can come with major events like Opening Day by taking advantage convenient mass transit to get downtown including DDOT and the QLINE. Several major bus routes, including Woodward, Gratiot, Grand River and Michigan Avenue lead downtown, a short walk from Comerica Park.  Bus fares are $2 and passes can be obtained in advance through the Token Transit app. 

 

Visitors also can park north of downtown in Midtown and New Center, where rates may be less expensive and take the QLINE to Grand Circus Park. There is no charge to ride the QLINE.

 

Get downtown early and use the People Mover often - it's running fast, frequent and always free - from 6:30 a.m. until midnight on April 4. 

 

Riders can also join in with the first DPM Open Mike with the band Saxappeal and The Cru live from Broadway Station from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
