Tracking Progress of the Detroit Climate Strategy
In 2023 the City of Detroit published the Detroit Climate Strategy outlining priority strategies to reduce our emissions.
About the Implementation Dashboard
The Detroit Climate Strategy Dashboard tracks our city's progress on our measurable targets across four priority areas: transitioning to clean energy, increasing sustainable mobility, accelerating homes and buildings energy efficiency, reducing and diverting waste and increasing resilience and adaptation while focusing on our most vulnerable. Through transparent data reporting and quarterly updates, our Office is committed to updating residents and partners on our shared successes and work ahead.
Working Towards Zero Emissions
To cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions cities have been conducting inventories that help track amounts coming from various sectors.
The City of Detroit commissioned a greenhouse gas inventory with 2018 data which revealed that Detroit produced 10.7 million Metric Tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).
The chart below shows the amount of emissions we need to reduce in order to meet our climate goals.

Progress by Strategy
Each strategy contains specific actions and targets which together aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These actions were a result of a collaborative process and were coordinated as a first set of climate action priorities.
