City announces 7-Point Homeless Plan

Mayor Duggan has announced a 7-Point Plan to expand assistance and access for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Detroit.

In order to do everything possible to reach every unsheltered person in need of emergency shelter, Mayor Duggan indicated that the report’s 7 Point Plan would be implemented immediately.

Mayor Duggan delivers his last budget to Detroit City Council

Mayor Mike Duggan has presented his last proposed fiscal year budget and four-year financial plan to City Council. 

This marks the 12th balanced budget for Detroit since exiting bankruptcy and caps a remarkable journey to economic and financial recovery that includes significant investment and revenue growth creating a safer, more vibrant and sustainable City for its residents.

The proposed budget supports our highest priorities including additional funding for preventing homelessness and investing more in DDOT and community violence prevention work, which contribute to a more vibrant, safe, and sustainable city for residents.

Detroit recovery efforts in full force

On February 17, 2025, residents near the area of Beard Street and Rowan Street in Southwest Detroit experienced flooding due to a 54-inch water transmission main break. 

If you were impacted by the water main break and have experienced any real or personal damage, please complete the Notice of Claim form as soon as possible using the link below.

City offers Respite Locations and Warming Centers to help residents escape the cold

With frigid temperatures impacting weather conditions, the City is reminding residents of available warming centers and respite locations to provide relief from the cold. 

Additionally, residents can visit any Detroit recreation center or Detroit Public Library branch during regular operating hours for a place to stay safe and warm. To see operating hours for rec centers, go to detroitmi.gov/recreation. For hours for library branches, go to detroitpubliclibrary.org.

Currently, the City of Detroit has more than 1,400 shelter and warming center beds it operates with its local partners.
