Information on how to apply for a Bedding and Upholstered Furniture permit as required under Ordinance #20-2-51 of the Detroit City Code.
Complete a Bedding and Furniture Permit Application and submit current law labels for approval. If using a registry number issued by another state, please submit a copy of the certificate issued by that state. Make payment using our new payment portal, please see link below. Our license year runs from January 1 to December 31.
If you apply after December 31 a late fee of $50.00 will be assessed. An Annual Report is due January 31 for all goods sold in the City of Detroit from the previous year. The formula for pricing can be found on the reporting form.

The payment portal is for payments only, it does not generate an application. Please mail in your completed applications and appropriate documents along with your payment receipt. No e-mail applications will be accepted. Applications will be processed in the order in which they are received by US mail only.
